With all the idiocy going on in our country Nepal and around the world: the sinful killing of Nabraj BK and disgraceful police brutality against George Floyd had made us doubt humanity! It brings great grief that some people still exhibit hatred towards others due to their caste or because of their skin colour!
As a musician, we have a voice and a platform to convey a message to the audience in a way which is greatly engaging. Hip Hop has been a strong genre courageous to speak the truth! (The likes of Rap group N.W.A. and their song “Fuck Da Police”). The motive with my new Single “EGO (अहंकार)” is to make people aware of the nonsensical narrow-minded thinking that still exists (even till this day!) and the negative impact it has on all other people which MUST BE CHANGED!
“Phool ko mala, raato avhir, Gaai ko puja garne desh. Afnu chori maina wari, Huda goot ma rakhne desh” In a county where people worship cattle but treat their teenage daughters like cattles during mensuration! "Bel sanga bae, gufa ani bratha. Yestai nai cha harmo desh ko astha byastha pratha" It's bitter knowing that majority of our traditional practices are designed for women, men have always and still favoured and dominant!
“Purkhe-le chaalan, Gare maile paalan, Ke tara sabai sacho ho?” Even though, we might not agree with all rituals or traditions: it is said to be against our culture to question or disobey our elders: "Matru devo bhava, Pitru devo bhava" (Mother is God, Father is God). Therefore, we tend to follow along and “Bite the Bullet”. The appetite for Western way of life has certainly influenced the people of Nepal (more than before): Holidays abroad, dining at fancy restaurants, branded clothes, luxurious vehicles and leisure activities. Despite the higher unemployment rate and poor economy, everyone yearns for the GOOD LIFE. Money is now a critical factor is our lives, “Uleko baje ko pala ma, Moorhar ganthe dala ma, Aileko hamro pala ma, Paisa ko lalach sara ma.
We proudly say “Buddha was born in Nepal”, yet we don’t follow his teachings. We still carry bitterness towards Indian’s working in Nepal, people are still corrupted and women are still sold for money!
CHORUS
“If only I can get you walking in my shoes
Ma pani ta timi jastai manche hu.
If only you can see the things the way I do?
But you blinded by your Egos ani society ko rules”
Let's use our voice and platform to fight against the wrong and injustice! As Dr. Martin Luther King said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
